Applications for housing are taken on Mondays 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at 4920 Larkspur Drive (Main Office). Person’s that are 50 years of age and older may obtain an application on Monday thru Friday 9: 00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. for James Hunter & John B. Nicosia Senior Citizen Building. You must have a valid driver’s license or a state I.D. to obtain an application. There is currently a waiting list for housing.

 

- Application ranking is based on needs standards set forth by HUD which include income, family size, military service etc. Preference is given to residence of East Chicago.   
- Rent is based on either 30% of a household's monthly income or a flat rate based on local fair-market rents.
- Residents who live in the 3, 4 or 5 bedroom units pay their own gas, electric, water and sewer bills, a monthly utility allowance is deducted from the gross rent formula. Residents who live in the  1 and 2 bedroom units ('D' buildings) pay no utilities.
- Residents are responsible for maintaining the exterior of their units. General lawn care service  is provided.

- Residents can participate in the Resident Organization and Community Watch Program.
- Off duty Police Officers are employed by the East Chicago Housing Authority for the Community policing at night.
- 24 hour emergency maintenance provides round-the-clock repair services.
