The 151st Community Center offers various programs to assist the families of
the East Chicago Housing Authority residents.
These programs range from after school tutoring programs for the young,
Youth-To-Youth (YTY) and
Teen Scene, a drug elimination program
targeting the prevention of tobacco, alcohol and drug usage. The center also has a
staff library on site with literature,
magazines and computers in which all ages enjoy.
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program whose sole purpose is to assist
families in becoming independent of government
assistance is also housed at the center. The Family Self-Sufficiency program has
a staff of two to aid residents to identify
realistically attainable goals.
The 151st Community Center has partnered with UPS. Every Tuesday morning from 10
a.m. until noon employment possibilities

Monthly meetings are held with the Resident Council and for the neighborhood
watch organization T.O.C.B. (Taking Our Community Back).

There are recreation programs for youth and adults for basketball, billiards,
movies, video games, dancing classes and aerobics.
The apprenticeship program J-City YouthBuild is also offered. Transportation is
provided to various sites in East Chicago and Hammond.
